Schneider, NextStream Partner to Boost Data Center Expansion
Schneider Electric, a global leader in digital energy management and automation, and NextStream, a Latin American critical digital infrastructure company, announced a strategic partnership to digitalize asset monitoring at NextStream’s data center in Ixtlahuaca, State of Mexico.
The project aims to strengthen operational availability and support NextStream’s expansion plans through an independent monitoring architecture and cloud-based analytics. The collaboration comes amid rapid growth in Mexico’s data center ecosystem, driven by AI applications, accelerated digitalization, and energy efficiency priorities. Real-time visibility and predictive maintenance are increasingly critical for investment planning and maintaining high availability levels.
Independent Monitoring and Cloud Analytics
NextStream faced the challenge of monitoring the health of its energy system in real time without diverting servers from its clients. Schneider Electric proposed installing an autonomous monitoring “brain,” known as IT Box, which collects data and alerts via cellular connectivity.
This system feeds into Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT Expert and EcoStruxure Asset Advisor platforms, enabling trend analysis and maintenance prioritization as if staff were on-site, without using the operator’s IT infrastructure.
The project also identified opportunities to update four Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units. Instead of replacing entire systems, a modernization strategy was adopted with key benefits, such as an extended lifespan, cost reduction, regulatory compliance, reliability and safety and scalability. The initiative ensured service continuity, operational reliability, and future modernization planning under a circular economy approach.
“In a growing market, operators need timely information to make infrastructure decisions,” said Mario Maldonado, Schneider Electric Vice President of Secure Power for Mexico and Central America. “The independent monitoring architecture implemented in Ixtlahuaca shows how digitalization and predictive analytics support operational resilience and sustainable asset management.”
“For NextStream, this project in Ixtlahuaca is more than digitizing monitoring; it is a concrete step to enhance operational resilience and optimize resources intelligently. Our partnership with Schneider Electric reinforces our commitment to providing reliable and sustainable critical infrastructure in a rapidly expanding market,” said Juan Esteban, NextStream Operations Director.
Ixtlahuaca was selected for its available electrical infrastructure, room for growth, and favorable climate conditions, making it a benchmark for high-demand clients and highlighting the project’s importance.
The Schneider Electric–NextStream alliance offers a replicable model for operators seeking critical infrastructure monitoring without expanding internal resources. In the context of Mexico’s data center growth, the project illustrates how digitalization increases availability, efficiency, and responsible lifecycle management.
