Waldo’s to Invest MX$847 Million in 2025 Expansion Across Mexico
In an effort to strengthen its position as a leading low-cost retail chain in Mexico, offering competitive prices and variety across communities nationwide, discount retail chain Waldo plans to invest MX$847 million in 2025 to open 130 new stores across the country. The company has plans to reinforce its presence in central Mexico, the Bajio, southern and northeastern regions as it moves closer to operating 1,000 outlets nationwide.
Waldo currently manages 923 locations, nearly 100 of which have opened this year. With its current pace of weekly openings, Waldo’s expects to reach its 1,000th store by mid-2026, said Ernesto Llano, Vice President of Commercial Operations.
“With the opening expansion plan we have, approximately by mid-2026 we will reach store number 1,000. We can open stores in any city in the country,” Llano said.
The retailer’s growth strategy includes the launch of a new distribution center in southeastern Mexico within the next two years. This facility will strengthen operations alongside the company’s recently inaugurated logistics hub in Salinas Victoria, Nuevo Leon, which required a MX$38 million investment.
Currently, Waldo’s operates in every state and more than 300 municipalities. Its retail studies suggest each location performs well in communities of at least 20,000 residents, creating the potential for up to 5,000 stores in the future.
Affordable and Diverse Offerings
Waldo’s commercial strategy centers on affordability and product variety. The company says 80% of its items cost MX$50 or less, with price points capped at MX$100. More than half of its inventory is produced in Mexico, while the remainder comes from 17 countries, including the United States, Canada, India, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Thailand.
The retailer’s product rotation ranges from basic consumer goods and clothing to general merchandise, seasonal items, and even mobility products.
“The biggest challenge in the company’s history is this expansion plan. We are on a very good path to achieve it,” Llano said.
