Aeroméxico reported a 10% reduction in emissions compared to 2019 and the use of over 323,000 liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in its 2024 Sustainability Report. The airline also acquired 52,500 tons of carbon credits under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and implemented operational efficiency measures that avoided more than 39,000 tons of CO₂ emissions.

“We made progress in the use of SAF and in our strategy to secure carbon credits as part of our compliance with the CORSIA program,” said Andrés Conesa, CEO, Aeroméxico. “We also conducted a qualitative assessment to identify risks and opportunities related to climate change, ensuring our strategic decisions remain aligned with our sustainability objectives.”

Aeroméxico reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As part of its interim goals, the airline aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 28% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. To support this target, Aeroméxico plans for 74% of its fleet to consist of next-generation aircraft by 2030, which consume less fuel and emit less CO₂.

The airline has additional goals, including improving annual fuel efficiency by 0.3% through process optimization and technology investments. On the ground, Aeroméxico targets a 30% reduction in emissions through renewable energy use at its facilities and the deployment of more efficient vehicles. SAF is expected to account for 5% of total fuel consumption by 2030.

The report acknowledged a 7% rise in absolute emissions in 2024, attributed to a 12% increase in operations measured in ton-kilometers transported. Aeroméxico concluded the pilot phase (2021–2023) of CORSIA and submitted its final emissions report to Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). It also completed the first emissions report for CORSIA Phase 1 (2024–2026).
