Aeroméxico Marks 90th with Fleet Expansion and Upgrades
Aeroméxico has reached a significant milestone in its 90th year with a major expansion and modernization initiative. Over the past three years, the airline has increased its fleet by 61%, bringing the total to 157 aircraft. This growth places Aeroméxico among the top 10 airlines worldwide.
Andrés Conesa, CEO, Aeroméxico, highlighted that the airline has transported over 500 million passengers since its founding. Recent investments have focused on upgrading aircraft interiors and enhancing connectivity, including the gradual rollout of in-flight internet on its Embraer 190 fleet.
Aeroméxico now operates over 100 routes to 90 destinations, making it the airline with the most extensive connectivity network in Mexico. In 2024 alone, the airline has launched 12 new routes to the United States through its partnership with Delta Air Lines and plans to introduce 13 additional routes, including a new service to Cartagena, Colombia.
The airline’s monthly seating capacity is currently 2.3 million, with plans to increase to 2.6 million by year's end. Aeroméxico’s punctuality has earned it a spot in Cirium's top 10 most punctual airlines globally, a distinction it has achieved four times this year.
"The recent report for August ranked Aeroméxico as the top global airline for punctuality," Conesa said.
Aeroméxico’s investment strategy includes acquiring 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft over the next 18 months. These new planes are 20% more fuel-efficient and 50% quieter than their predecessors. Additionally, the airline’s entire fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners will be upgraded to match the seating configuration of the 787-9.
The airline is also investing in its primary hub, Mexico City International Airport (AICM), with planned renovations to the check-in area and premier lounges.
