The Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR), through the Mexico City Airport Group (GACM), has announced that the international airports of Mexico City (AICM), Toluca, and Cuernavaca have signed individual agreements with FWC2026 Mexico, a subsidiary of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). These agreements will facilitate the use of airport facilities during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
“This is good news. Moreover, the Navy has significantly improved airport operations and will continue to do so. With these renovations, there will be more space for immigration, which will enhance the arrival experience for visitors, as well as improve operational efficiency,” stated President Claudia Sheinbaum during a morning press conference.
To prepare for the event, an MX$8 billion investment will be made to renovate the infrastructure of the three airports. The improvements aim to upgrade infrastructure and services, enhance the user experience, ensure safety, increase air connectivity, and support the development of surrounding communities.
