Honeywell announced that Avianca, Colombia’s largest airline, has selected its portfolio of avionics and mechanical systems for its new Airbus A320neo fleet. The adoption of these technologies aims to enhance operational efficiency and situational awareness for Avianca’s pilots.

Honeywell will also supply 131-9A Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for Avianca’s 138 new aircraft. These units provide electrical power to the aircraft while on the ground, ensuring passenger comfort before engine startup.

"Our collaboration with Avianca is based on Honeywell’s 100+ years of innovation, allowing us to deliver the most advanced technologies in the industry," said José Fernandes, President, Honeywell Latin America. "With our mechanical systems, avionics, and industry-leading APUs, Avianca will maximize the operational efficiency of its new A320neo fleet while providing pilots with intuitive cockpit systems that enhance situational awareness."

In addition to the 131-9A APU, Avianca has selected the following Honeywell avionics systems for its A320neo fleet:

  • Pegasus II A320 Flight Management System (FMS): Provides primary navigation, flight planning, optimized routing, and en-route guidance. It integrates navigation, performance calculation, and data link functions.

  • IntuVue RDR-4000 3D Weather Radar: The first commercial radar to provide accurate 3D weather visuals. It scans the sky in 17 tilt angles, offering an intuitive display that enhances fuel efficiency, safety, and on-time arrivals.

  • Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS): Highlights potential collision hazards and provides clear actions to mitigate risks. Honeywell’s SmartTraffic CAS 100 improves safety in dense airspace with intuitive traffic visualization.

  • Integrated Multimode Receiver: Combines satellite- and ground-based navigation for precise aircraft positioning, especially during challenging landings.

  • Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS): Reduces the risk of controlled flight into terrain by providing accurate terrain and obstacle alerts to flight crews.

Honeywell has produced over 100,000 gas turbine APUs over the past 70 years. Its 131 series APUs are among the most successful in the market, with more than 100 million operational hours.
