DHL Express has plans to procure US$800 million worth of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from British Petroleum for its transatlantic operations in 2024.

With a target of achieving an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, the company is embracing advanced technologies such as AI, big data, and SAF to optimize fuel efficiency.

Their GoGreen Plus service introduces sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to reduce emissions in shipments, initially launched across eight countries and now available in all 220 territories where DHL Express operates.

Leveraging SAF, capable of slashing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional fuel, this service stems from DHL's collaboration with BP and Neste, targeting the purchase of 800 million liters of SAF within five years. DHL aims to achieve a 10% SAF blend for all flights by 2026, estimating savings of around two million tons of carbon dioxide emissions throughout the fuel lifecycle.

As stated by Antonio Arranz, CEO of DHL Mexico in an early December press release, the company intends to integrate 12 propeller aircraft by 2027. These aircraft, designed for reduced noise and environmental impact, have the capability to carry 400 kg over 400 km. While envisioning a future dominated by electric and hydrogen planes, Arranz acknowledges the necessity for substantial technological advancements in Mexico.

DHL Express maintains global recognition as a leader in international express shipping, offering next business day delivery, customizable import/export options, tailored business solutions, and an array of optional services. Meanwhile, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain cater to businesses with comprehensive logistics solutions encompassing freight services and 3PL services, respectively.

Among other initiatives, DHL's programs include We Care, a self-service portal designed to enhance the customer experience in shipment claims processes. Additionally, the company achieved its third consecutive certification as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ individuals in 2024.
