Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (Grupo OMA) registered 28.8 percent growth from January to December 2022 in comparison to the same period last year, and a 20.6 percent year-to-year increase in December, which have proven vital for the group’s recovery.

Grupo OMA reports that its 13 airports received 2.3 million passengers in December 2022, a 20.6 percent growth year over year. The group registered outstanding performance on domestic and international passenger traffic, with increases of 19.1 percent and 30.4 percent, respectively. In 2021, the group received nearly 18.1 million total passengers, a figure that grew by 28.8 percent to 23.2 million passengers in 2022, aiding a much-needed recovery.

The group also announced that Aeroméxico will now offer three new routes from Monterrey International Airport to Los Angeles, Guanajuato and Queretaro all year. Mazatlan International Airport will now provide three more via Canadian Sunwing Airlines to Winnipeg, Montreal and Kelowna on a seasonal basis.

Of the total volume of passengers in December 2022, 99.4 percent corresponded to commercial aviation and 0.6 percent to general aviation, explained the group via a press release. OMA received 1.9 million national passengers and 320,000 international passengers.

Monterrey International Airport outperformed all of Grupo OMA’s 13 airports in terms of total passengers, reaching 918,980 in December 2022. The airport also ranked first during the entire year, registering a total of 9.5 million passengers. Culiacan International Airport ranked second in passenger traffic, followed by the airports of Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua in December 2022.

Monterrey International Airport reported a year-over-year increase in national and international passengers of 24.5 percent and 40.2 percent, respectively, in December 2022. The airports with the smallest total passenger traffic were those in Zacatecas, Tampico, Reynosa and Durango.

OMA operates and manages 13 airports in nine states in the central and northern region of Mexico, in the cities of: Acapulco, Ciudad Juarez, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Mazatlan, Monterrey, Reynosa, San Luis Potosi, Tampico, Torreon, Zacatecas and Zihuatanejo.
