Safran has begun expanding its Safran Aero Composite (SAC P3) facility in Queretaro, a move set to increase production capacity for the Leading Edge components of the LEAP 1A and 1B engines. The project will involve a team of 132 local specialists.

The expansion was formally launched during a groundbreaking ceremony led by Marco Antonio Del Prete, head of the Ministry of Sustainable Development (SEDESU). Safran confirmed that the upgraded facility will manufacture a titanium engine component in Queretaro for the first time, further integrating the state into the company’s global LEAP engine operations.

Del Prete highlighted the project as a sign of continued trust in Queretaro and alignment with Safran’s carbon-free manufacturing commitment. “This investment confirms Safran’s renewed confidence in Querétaro,” he said, noting that the expansion will strengthen production capacity and generate new specialized manufacturing jobs.

Safran executives emphasized Querétaro’s strategic role. Olivier Henriot, Director, Center of Excellence for Fans and Composite Parts, stated: “What is produced in Queretaro comes from a center of excellence, part of a global network that operates as a single industrial entity for LEAP engines. The state is a key site to accelerate production capabilities.”

Alejandro Cardona, President, Safran Mexico, highlighted the technical significance of the new production line: “This is the third source for highly specialized LEAP engine components, integrating titanium and cleaner processes that protect the planet.” Cardona noted that the expansion supports coordinated output across Safran’s global facilities.

Jean-Baptiste Vaney, Director, SAC Queretaro, attributed the growth to ongoing collaboration with state authorities. He recalled the plant’s 2017 goal to become an industry reference point. “This growth reflects our sustained evolution and the performance of our team. The new phase enables closer coordination with Safran teams in France and the United States,” he said. “It demonstrates confidence in Mexico, in Queretaro, and in our talent.”
