The Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR) is preparing to participate in the auction for Interjet's assets, with the aim of acquiring the airline's office building at Mexico City International Airport (AICM). This move is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle space and efficiency challenges within the airport's administrative offices.

SEMAR has requested MX$17.9 million to purchase various items previously owned by Interjet. The acquisition includes 1,435 pieces of equipment, such as shelves, filing cabinets, chairs, and desks, aimed at improving operational efficiency and safety for airport staff.

Currently, the administrative offices at AICM face overcrowding due to increased personnel and limited space. This situation affects worker comfort and efficiency and risks non-compliance with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards and ergonomic guidelines. SEMAR has noted that much of the office furniture, some over 20 years old, has exceeded its useful life.

This planned acquisition aligns with SEMAR's recent takeover of the airport's administration, which was previously managed by the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SICT) following a presidential decree. SEMAR’s bid for Interjet’s assets is part of its efforts to enhance working conditions and operational efficiency at AICM.

The auction of Interjet's assets comes after the airline ceased operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under SEMAR's management, AICM has experienced reductions in flight delays and the recovery of spaces previously occupied by former Mexicana de Aviación employees. While Terminal 2 has expanded, the administrative facilities have remained unchanged since 2008.
