Grupo Bimbo continues to strengthen its community engagement through its Buen Vecino (Good Neighbor) program, which focuses on education, environmental preservation, and inclusion. As part of this initiative, the company launched the Escuelas de Lluvia (Schools of Rain) project in 2020 to address water scarcity in Mexico by installing rainwater harvesting systems at schools.

The program, developed in collaboration with Isla Urbana and Agua Capital, equips schools with systems to collect and use rainwater, along with water-saving handwashing stations and educational workshops on water conservation. The initiative includes a two-year follow-up to ensure sustainability and train school staff, students, and parents on system maintenance.

According to Leticia Pacheco, Social Projects Leader, Grupo Bimbo, the initiative has enabled schools to access safe water through alternative and innovative methods. Since its launch, Escuelas de Lluvia has been implemented in 44 schools across five states, benefiting more than 17,000 students. In 2024, the program expanded to 16 additional schools in 11 municipalities, reaching over 6,800 students.

The initiative is part of Grupo Bimbo’s broader commitment to improving quality of life in communities near its operations. Since 2012, the Buen Vecino program has completed 79 projects in Mexico, focusing on infrastructure improvements, public space restoration, and remote training programs.
