In a strategic move to support the local micro-entrepreneurs of Acapulco, Guerrero, who suffered losses due to the impact of Hurricane Otis, Grupo Modelo has announced a significant investment of MX$24 million (US$1.3 million). This initiative is part of a broader campaign, Let's Help the Pacific, aimed at contributing to the reconstruction efforts for small businesses affected by the meteorological phenomenon in October.

In a press release, the company outlined its plan to release a special edition of Pacifico Acapulco beer. According to Grupo Modelo, each purchase will directly contribute to Guerrero’s recovery, with 100% of the sales dedicated to reconstruction efforts in the region. The initiative extends beyond financial aid, as it aims to actively participate in the reconstruction of small businesses that are integral to the Acapulco and Pacific region's economic fabric. The project targets assistance for 300 storefronts, donations to 1,000 stores, provision of inventory to restart operations, and the supply of 600 refrigeration units.

Raúl Escalante, Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Grupo Modelo, emphasized the company's commitment to Mexico and the importance of unity and solidarity in times of need. "Our history and that of our brands have walked hand in hand with Mexico, being present in memorable moments but also during challenging times. We are convinced that only through unity and solidarity can we aid those in need and create a future with more reasons to celebrate," he stated.

According to the 2022 National Statistical Directory of Economic Units by INEGI, Mexico has over a million grocery stores, with 35,000 located in Guerrero, employing 200,000 individuals. The value of these grocery stores plays a crucial role in the beer industry's value chain, representing 1.5% of the country's GDP, as highlighted by Cerveceros de Mexico.

Teodora Ramírez, Minister of Promotion and Economic Development, Guerrero, expressed optimism about Grupo Modelo's investment. "Today, we receive with optimism the announcement made by Grupo Modelo to invest in supporting the stability of thousands of jobs and the primary source of income for Acapulco families," she stated.

This project reaffirms Grupo Modelo's social responsibility and commitment to Mexico. Since the onset of the emergency in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero, the brewery has sent 500,000 cans and bottles of water, produced to the highest quality standards, contributing over 250,000 liters of water for the benefit of the affected communities.
