President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a comprehensive program to boost the production of high-quality meat, backed by an investment of approximately MX$700 million (US$37.5 million). The initiative, part of Plan México, is designed to support cattle ranchers in Durango, Coahuila, and Sonora.

The program aims to strengthen both the domestic market and export capabilities. "Today, I announce a total investment of almost MX$700 million here in Durango to support the production of the best quality meat," President Sheinbaum stated during an event marking her first year in office. She detailed that the investment includes the delivery of breeding bulls, a support fund for cattle fattening, and the creation of comprehensive, high-quality meat production centers.

This initiative comes at a time when ranchers in northern Mexico face a challenging trade environment. The United States closed its border to live cattle exports from Mexico due to cases of New World screwworm (NWS) that have been detected in the southern part of the country. President Sheinbaum noted that the new program is a way to support the industry by strengthening the internal market without neglecting exports.
