GBG Cases Drop 28%: SADER, USDA
The ministries of agriculture for Mexico and the United States discussed progress in controlling screwworm cases, reporting a decline in active cases in Mexico.
Julio Berdegué, Mexico’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), and Brooke Rollins, Head, US Department of Agriculture (USDA), highlighted results from a joint action plan against the pest. According to the officials, active cases in Mexico have dropped 28% since the implementation of the strategy.
Rollins emphasized the ongoing communication between the two agencies and noted that Mexico’s rapid response protocols have ensured 7,245 animals received timely treatment and fully recovered. “Mexico and the United States are working together to protect livestock health, which benefits producers and consumers across North America,” the officials said.
The collaboration reflects both countries’ commitment to monitoring and controlling pests that threaten the livestock sector, aiming to maintain animal health and support agricultural productivity.
