SADER Launches Fertilizer Distribution for 2025 in Edomex
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) began distributing free fertilizer on May 9 in the State of Mexico as part of the Fertilizers for Well-Being 2025 program. The initiative will deliver nearly 70,000t of fertilizer to more than 157,000 producers of staple crops.
The program targets producers of corn, beans, rice, sugarcane, and other essential crops for the local economy. Among the beneficiaries are more than 56,000 women, whose agricultural leadership contributes to food sovereignty and the preservation of traditional farming practices.
Under the current administration led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, fertilizer support is being established as a constitutional right. The program seeks to close historic rural inequality gaps and promote greater equity in the agricultural sector.
PEMEX will supply approximately 24,000t of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and 46,000t of urea. Distribution will take place through 69 Agriculture Distribution Centers (CEDA) located in strategic municipalities. SADER personnel will oversee delivery of the fertilizer directly to eligible producers.
The program will cover 233,400ha of agricultural land. Each producer may receive up to 300kg/ha of fertilizer, with a cap of 2ha per person. This translates to a maximum of 12 bags of 25kg/ha.
Fertilizer allocations are based on crop type. Corn, rice, prickly pear, wheat, and sugarcane will receive four bags of DAP and eight bags of urea. Bean producers will receive four bags of each, while crops like amaranth, oats, peanuts, coffee, barley, chia, and sunflower will be allocated six bags of each fertilizer type.
