In a concerted effort to bolster the National Campaign against Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) and advance toward eradicating the disease in the central and western regions of Mexico, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) presented strategic points of the Regional Action Plan to producers and authorities from Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Nayarit, Jalisco, and Zacatecas. The plan focuses on prevention and the gradual reduction of the disease in livestock production units.

The strategy aims to consolidate regionalization to optimize resources and capacities, strengthen livestock traceability and identification, enhance both field and laboratory diagnosis, and achieve the eradication of TB and bovine brucellosis, as stated by the National Service of Health, Safety, and Agri-Food Quality (SENASICA). The implementation of these measures is expected to restore the sanitary status of the central and western regions, enabling livestock producers to access expanded and improved markets.

SENASICA reaffirmed its commitment to local governments and the productive sector, pledging support in implementing improvements in disease diagnosis in the field, enabling immediate action by livestock producers to reduce infections in their herds.

Prior to this initiative, during the 9th International Dairy Forum, SENASICA experts exchanged experiences and perspectives with specialists from India, Spain, Brazil, and the United States regarding the health challenges facing the dairy sector. They emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to develop mechanisms that enhance milk production and transition toward environmentally responsible livestock farming.

Vicente Gómez, President, Mexican Dairy Federation (FEMELECHE), underscored the significance of dairy farming as one of the longest productive chains, highlighting the importance of developing production and management programs and utilizing new technologies to ensure the sustainability and resilience of the dairy sector, to the benefit of Mexico's economic and social development.

Mexico's dairy production ranks third in livestock activities by its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), following beef and poultry, thus playing a fundamental role in economic and social development, as well as in the nutrition of Mexican families.
