Trouw Nutrition Opens US$48 Million Animal Feed Plant in QRO
Dutch company Trouw Nutrition has opened a new animal feed plant in Queretaro with an investment of MX$1 billion (US$48.8 million). The facility, representing the largest investment by the company in Mexico in its 43-year history, is expected to increase production capacity by 100,000t annually.
“This plant is a testament to Trouw Nutrition Mexico’s confidence in the country’s agricultural sector. Mexico is one of the world’s leading producers of animal protein, and with this facility, we are ready to take the industry to the next level,” said Joris De Boer, General Manager, Trouw Nutrition Mexico.
The plant features three production lines: one for monogastric animals such as pigs and poultry, another for ruminants like cattle, and a third dedicated to pelletized products. The facility integrates sustainability measures, including solar panels, waste recycling, and rainwater collection systems.
The construction and operation of the plant have generated 150 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs within the supply chain. The location in Queretaro offers logistical advantages, connecting the facility with key ports on the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean.
Wilfred Mohr, Dutch Ambassador to Mexico, emphasized that the investment demonstrates the continued confidence of Dutch companies in the Mexican market. “Despite the challenges the country faces, Mexico remains an attractive destination due to its competitiveness and strategic location. We are pleased to be one of its key partners,” he said.
Queretaro has positioned itself as a hub for the agri-food sector, attracting investments through government support and a focus on research and innovation. Marco Del Prete, State Minister of Sustainable Development, highlighted that both the state and Trouw Nutrition share a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Ricardo Kandelman, CEO, Trouw Nutrition’s, outlined the company’s sustainability strategy, which focuses on energy reduction, the use of environmentally friendly energy sources, water efficiency, and emission reductions. “We work with a long-term vision, integrating into the communities where we operate. No company exists in isolation; we must be part of the community,” he said.
The Queretaro plant is the company’s fourth in Mexico, complementing facilities in Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Cuernavaca. Trouw Nutrition also exports animal feed to Guatemala, Belize, Colombia, and Venezuela.
