The potential reinstatement of US tariffs could have a significant impact on Asian food businesses in Sinaloa, according to the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC). Concern stems from the reliance of these businesses on imported ingredients, many of which come from the United States.

Laura Guzmán, President, CANIRAC, explained that these businesses purchase a large part of their supplies directly from the United States. “Some ingredients originate from Asia, but a wide range of bakery ingredients and dressings also come from the United States. We are aware that this would affect many businesses in our sector," she said.

Guzmán expressed confidence that negotiations between Mexico and the United States will yield positive results. However, she also noted that if tariffs are implemented, Mexico should see this as an opportunity to strengthen its domestic market. Authorities from both countries have set a one-month deadline to discuss the trade issue and reach an agreement that would allow continued trade under the existing free trade framework.
