The Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) has announced the appointment of José Rogelio Garza Garza as its new Executive President, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Garza Garza brings over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, including work with chambers of commerce and foreign trade. His extensive government experience includes serving as Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce at the Ministry of Economy, as well as holding various leadership positions in federal agencies.

“With this appointment, AMIA reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the association’s position and supporting the continued growth and transformation of the automotive industry. We are confident that Rogelio Garza’s expertise in trade relations and negotiations will be crucial in advancing Mexico’s automotive sector,” said AMIA officials in their announcement.

“This is a significant professional challenge for me. The automotive industry has the greatest economic impact in Mexico and plays a key role in North America. As the industry undergoes a historic transformation, it is essential not only to sustain its performance but also to drive its expansion,” remarked Rogelio Garza.

Garza’s focus will be on trade agreements, international collaborations, and strategies to ensure the competitiveness of the Mexican automotive industry in the evolving global market. His leadership aligns with AMIA’s strategic goals, especially as the industry faces challenges such as technological shifts, supply chain realignments, and changing market demands.

Odracir Barquera will continue in his role as General Director of the association.
