Q: What added value is derived from Aqua Machinery’s OMAX equipment?

A: Aqua Machinery is the exclusive distributor in Mexico of OMAX, a leading waterjet cutting company. OMAX has more than 60 percent of the US market and 40 percent globally. It is also the only company in the world that designs and manufactures its own products including software.

The waterjet cutting process transforms electrical energy and converts it into hydraulic energy, which is then transferred to the abrasive to cut materials. We have the most efficient hydraulic pump in the market. With a 50hp electric motor we deliver up to 44 HP into the nozzle, our goal is to ensure the lowest energy losses and our machines are around 90 percent energy efficient.

Another distinct advantage we have is that we are the only company in the world that makes its own software for waterjet cutting processes. This means that we have jet predictive controls making the cutting process more accurate and faster than any other software in the market. The flexible nature of waterjet cutting tools leads to unexpected behaviors that we can prevent to be more efficient than our competitors. This translates to lower operating costs for our customers, which is key for the automotive industry.

All this is linked to a quality after-sales service that includes providing our customers with fast tech service response and the spare parts they need in the shortest possible time. We always have high and medium turnover spare parts in stock for immediate delivery. However, 90 percent of the problems a waterjet cutting machine can have can be resolved over the phone.

Q: What are the advantages of using waterjet cutting solutions over other cutting methods?

A: Waterjet cutting allows precision up to a thousandth of an inch (0.001¨), much less than the thickness of a hair andwe can cut materials up to 12in thick. Unlike other methods, such as laser or plasma, which use heat and alter the chemical and physical properties of the material, the method we use does not alter the material and allows compliance with all the quality standards requested by the automotive and aerospace industries.

We cover the entire country. We have showrooms in Mexico City, Queretaro, Monterrey, Ciudad Juarez and Mexicali, among others. We also have been in the market for eight years, which means that we have the experience to solve any problem that our clients may present.

Q: How has the waterjet cutting industry evolved in recent years?

A: In the last five years, this industry has become more and more accepted. Before, very few people knew about this technology. This has been changing as more and more companies enter the market nationwide. Aqua Machinery and OMAX also has agreements with academic institutions so students can learn about this technology and when they are in the labor market, they can choose this method.

The automotive and aerospace industries increasingly are adopting this technology because they understand the advantages of using it. We are seeing more OEMs asking their suppliers for waterjet cutting processes for some auto parts.
