Dongfeng Trucks will launch 130 heavy-duty trucks in Mexico, focusing on a robust post-sale service network and authorized dealers. This announcement was made by CEO Gabriel de Uriarte Occelli during the opening of their corporate offices in Santa Fe, Mexico City.
De Uriarte emphasized the importance of a structured approach to market entry, stating, “The market is eager for serious brands with a solid corporate structure.” He acknowledged the challenges posed by existing brands facing scandals and unprofessional practices, identifying opportunities for Dongfeng to gain market share, according to T21.
The strategy includes establishing a network of service points, beginning with a 2,500-square-meter parts warehouse, which will expand to 8,000 square meters by 2030. “Although we are initially bringing 130 trucks, our service support will assume we have 500 units in the market,” de Uriarte added.
Dongfeng’s initial truck models will include the GX, featuring a 6×4 configuration with a Cummins engine rated at 560 horsepower and an Eaton automatic transmission. The KX model will offer the same power but will also include a manual transmission option available in diesel and natural gas. Both models will comply with EURO 6 emissions standards, effective in Mexico from January 2025.
Dongfeng Motor Corporation currently operates its DFAC division for light to Class 4 trucks in Mexico through Central American investors. The heavy-duty segment, represented by DFMC, partners with master dealer Energon and Dongfeng Trucks for national coverage.
