Nissan is setting its sights on an electrifying future with ambitious plans for 2023. The automaker launched its "Nissan Ambition 2023" initiative, aiming to make a mark in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape. By 2030, Nissan plans to introduce a total of 19 new electric models, showcasing its commitment to a sustainable future.

Nissan plans to sell over 1 million EVs worldwide, as previously reported by MBN, as part of its global electrification strategy. This strategy will also be taking place in Mexico, as the Mexican market is a focal point for Nissan's electrification efforts. Nissan’s Kicks and X-Trail models, for example, are being empowered by its e-POWER technology, which is a crucial step toward a greener and more efficient driving experience.

Nissan's experience in EVs spans more than seven decades, starting with the pioneering Nissan LEAF in 2010. This groundbreaking model became the first mass-produced, 100% EV. Since then, Nissan has sold over 650,000 EVs across 50 markets worldwide, including major regions like Japan, the US and the EU.

In 2022, Nissan unveiled yet another game-changer: the Nissan Ariya, a crossover that incorporates a 100% electric drivetrain with four-wheel drive capabilities and the advanced ProPILOT 2.0 driver assistance system.

Mexico is experiencing the electrification wave firsthand, with models like the Nissan Kicks e-POWER and Nissan X-Trail e-POWER capturing the market's attention. Since their launch in November 2022, these models have gained significant traction, with more than 4,200 units sold between November and July 2023. The appeal of these vehicles is enhanced by the e-POWER technology, which eliminates the need for external charging sources. This innovative approach blends the benefits of electric mobility with the convenience of internal combustion engines, offering a silent and agile driving experience.

The automaker is also participating in the Pole to Pole Electric Vehicle Expedition, in which a Nissan Ariya will travel from the North Magnetic Pole to the South Pole in Antarctica.

Owning an EV brings environmental benefits and comes with fiscal advantages. In Mexico, EV owners can access tax incentives, green license plates, toll discounts and exemptions from vehicle-related fees and restrictions.
