By 2025, AI will establish itself as an integral tool in both the workplace and everyday life, with significant advances in autonomous capabilities, personalization, and sustainability, reports Microsoft.
"We will begin to see these tools have a measurable impact on the performance of people and institutions working on huge problems, such as designing sustainable materials and developing life-saving drugs," says Ashley Llorens, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Microsoft Research.
According to Microsoft Research, the use of AI tools, especially Generative AI, grew from 55% to 75% among business leaders over 2023. This boom reflects an accelerated adoption of more efficient, versatile, and specific models and applications for sectors such as science, coding, law, and medicine.
Microsoft AI trends for 2025
Through a press release, Microsoft reports that more capable and specialized models will enter the market. The use of synthetic data and advanced post-training processes will also allow smaller-scale models to match the performance of their larger counterparts in specialized tasks.
"These advances will enable models with advanced reasoning capabilities to execute complex workflows and compare contract data more accurately," reads Microsoft's press release.
Microsoft also reports that more companies will likely adopt AI-driven agents in 2025, which are already being used by 70% of Fortune 500 companies to optimize repetitive processes.
By 2025, autonomous agents with multimodal capabilities will also be able to handle more complex tasks, from reporting to IT troubleshooting and orchestration of logistics processes. In addition, according to Microsoft, platforms such as Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry will enable users with no programming experience to design their own agents.
The use of these tools is also expected to expand into everyday life. "Outside of the workplace, tools such as Copilot Daily and Copilot Vision are expected to offer personalized support," reads the press release. These applications are expected to facilitate daily tasks, from organizing agendas to making decisions, while ensuring data privacy and security. In the long term, greater emotional intelligence in interactions is envisioned to optimize the user experience.
The report says that companies are investing in making AI more accountable and personalized. Microsoft also plans to implement more rigorous testing to identify threats, from internal hallucinations to sophisticated external attacks. It adds that enterprises will be able to customize AI applications with security barriers tailored to their specific needs.
These tools are expected to drive scientific advances, especially biomolecular research and supercomputing, says Microsoft. Tools such as AI2BMD are enabling molecular dynamics simulations with unprecedented accuracy, driving the development of new drugs and sustainable materials. By 2025, Llorens says, these applications are expected to accelerate progress in fields critical to addressing global problems.
