Automation Drives AI Adoption Among Mexican Enterprises
Automation and assistance continue to be the main uses of AI in Mexico. Ninety percent of CIOs and ICT executives already employ at least one AI methodology, according to consulting firm Select.
"Automation and assistance with AI, such as chatbots, is the category with the highest current adoption, and is now beginning to integrate with multiple Generative AI agents to automate complex processes," says Ricardo Zermeño, President and Founder, Select.
According to Select's report, the expansion of AI use in Mexican organizations is driven by the need for operational efficiency, cost reduction, and agile decision making. This trend is reflected in the results of the company's survey, conducted in the first quarter of 2025 among 270 senior technology executives in large Mexican companies. The study grouped 14 AI methodologies into five broad functional categories to identify the current and future priorities of the Mexican business sector in terms of AI.
Main Findings
Sixty-nine percent of respondents indicated that automation and assistance is the most implemented functional category, mainly through the use of chatbots. These virtual assistants range from systems with predetermined responses to advanced solutions with natural language processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis capabilities, capable of generating personalized and adaptive responses.
They are followed in adoption by content creation and synthesis (66%) and data analysis and interpretation (61%). The use of Generative AI tools ranges from automated script writing to the design of molecules for pharmaceutical applications. In the case of data analysis and interpretation, the application of predictive analytics for tasks such as churn detection in telecommunications or early identification of epidemiological outbreaks stands out.
PLN is another methodology with significant adoption. It is applied both in spell checkers and in sentiment analysis systems on large volumes of text, enabling operational or market conclusions to be drawn from unstructured data.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is also among the most widely used methodologies. Traditionally focused on repetitive tasks, RPA is evolving through its integration with AI to support more dynamic operations, including automated decisions and conversational support. This synergy has given way to the approach known as AI agentic, which involves the use of multiple generative AI agents operating autonomously and in a coordinated fashion.
Although only 33% of participants have implemented these agents, the report highlights their growing international relevance in analytics, information generation, and automated decision making. The survey reveals that learning and improvement, in use by 47% of organizations, shares second place with data analytics in future technology adoption plans.
