Mexico City AI Hub Will Represent Latin America at UN's AI4Good
A group of young Mexican entrepreneurs has developed the Mexico City AI Hub, an ecosystem dedicated to the research, development and application of AI with ethics and social impact. The project will be presented at the United Nations during the AI4Good event in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Mexico City AI Hub will be the only project originating from Latin America at the event. "It is a great responsibility to be the only Latin American representative at this meeting, representing not only the Mexico City Hub, but the entire region," says Eugenio Salas Iturriaga, Founder, Alexandr.ia, and leader of the project. The initiative was selected for its focus on using AI to improve communities through education and sustainable development, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Mexico City AI Hub emerges as a response to the growing need to integrate AI into projects with social and ethical impact. AI is driving economic and social development, but companies emphasize that its application must be guided by principles that ensure equity, sustainability, and access to knowledge.
The AI4Good initiative, organized by the United Nations, seeks to identify and support projects that use AI to generate a positive impact on communities. Under this sense, as reported by One Digital, the Mexico City Hub was selected after a local competition in which proposals that demonstrate how AI could improve education and professional development in specific communities were evaluated.
Hub Structure
The Mexico City AI Hub is composed of a multidisciplinary team of ten professionals, led by Salas Iturriaga, an educational platform that uses AI to generate training materials and programs. The project has the support of key institutions such as the Mexican Association of AI, the Mexican Academy of Cybersecurity, the Mexico Digital Center, the Tec de Monterrey, Universidad Anahuac, DataBriks, and Microsoft, among others. These alliances seek to guarantee the Hub's technical and financial viability, as well as its long-term impact.
In addition to consolidating itself as a benchmark in the ethical application of AI, the Mexico City Hub aspires to be a model for other similar projects in the country. ConsumoTIC reports that other hubs are being planned in cities such as Monterrey, Merida, Oaxaca, Puebla, and Queretaro, initiatives that could position Mexico as a regional leader in the development of AI with social impact.
