OpenAI Launches Chat GPT-4o
OpenAI, a leader in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) innovation, announced the launch of its new GPT-4o language model along with enhancements and benefits for users within its platform. This new model, dubbed 'omni' for its ability to address text, speech, and video, aims to transform user experiences across a variety of applications.
Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, highlighted GPT-4o's revolutionary enhancements during a presentation at the company's San Francisco offices. "GPT-4o represents a significant advance in artificial intelligence (AI)," stated Murati. "By combining voice, text and vision, we are opening up new possibilities for human-machine interaction."
The GPT-4o model extends the capabilities of its predecessor, GPT-4, by incorporating voice modality, enabling more fluid and natural interaction with users. This multimodal processing capability allows users to interact with ChatGPT more dynamically, even interrupting the chatbot's responses and capturing emotional nuances in the user's voice.
Key features of GPT-4o include an improved ChatGPT user experience, with real-time responsiveness and the ability to understand and generate responses in a variety of emotive styles. There are also updates to ChatGPT's viewing capabilities, enabling quick responses to image- and screenshot-related questions, as well as enhanced multilingualism, with improved performance in approximately 50 languages. Finally, GPT-4o will also count with improved speed and efficiency on the OpenAI API and Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service.
"We are committed to improving the user experience and making interaction with artificial intelligence more natural and seamless," said Murati. "With GPT-4o, we are taking a big step forward in terms of ease of use and capability."
In adition, OpenAI announced the free availability of GPT-4o to all ChatGPT users, with premium users enjoying up to five times higher capacity limits. Likewise, according to a video released, the company plans to roll out the model to a group of "trusted partners" in the coming weeks, after which it will be released to the market generally.
"Our goal is to create benefits for the world through artificial intelligence," Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. "With GPT-4o, we are opening up new opportunities for developers and users to harness the power of AI."
Additionally, OpenAI announced the release of an updated user interface for ChatGPT on the web, featuring a new home screen and a "more conversational" message layout. In addition, a desktop version of ChatGPT for macOS will be released, allowing users to ask questions via a keyboard shortcut and discuss screenshots.
In the last of the announcements, within the GPT Store, OpenAI's library and authoring tools for third-party chatbots based on its AI models are now available to ChatGPT free tier users. In short, subscription-free users will be able to take advantage of previously paid features, such as the memory capability that allows ChatGPT to "remember" preferences for future interactions, upload files and photos, and search the web for timely responses.
