By 2025, the most in-demand job skills will include generative AI (Gen AI), cybersecurity, and human skills, driven by the rapid adoption of emerging technologies, according to Coursera. However, gender disparity persists, with women accounting for just 28% of AI course enrollments.

Christian Hernandez, Director of Coursera Enterprise for Latin America, pointed out that while Gen AI is transforming jobs and industries in Mexico at an unprecedented rate, unlocking its full potential depends on increasing AI training and literacy nationwide.

The evolution of job skills in Mexico is being shaped by AI and cybersecurity, as businesses adapt to technological advances. Deloitte highlights that Gen AI is revolutionizing business processes, paving the way for future job roles that are yet to exist.

According to Coursera's Job Skills Report 2025, which aggregates data from over five million learners worldwide, AI skills saw an 866% year-on-year increase. This spike reflects the urgent demand for tech-savvy professionals to navigate the challenges of digitization and industrial transformation.

Despite this growth, gender gaps remain a significant concern. In 2024, only 28% of AI course enrollments were made by women, signaling the need for inclusive initiatives to boost female participation in technology-focused sectors.

Meanwhile, cybersecurity has become another critical area. With cyber-attacks increasing by 71% in the past year, skills in risk management and data protection have become indispensable for organizations aiming to safeguard their digital infrastructure.

The report also highlights the increasing relevance of human skills, such as communication and assertiveness, which are crucial for fostering balanced job profiles. Combining technical skills with soft skills ensures professionals can excel in dynamic and collaborative workplaces.

Sustainability has also emerged as a major area of focus. Three of the ten most in-demand skills in 2024 are sustainability-related, reflecting the rising importance of environmentally conscious business strategies. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2023 Report forecasts that sustainability-driven roles will be among the fastest-growing from 2023 to 2027.

In Mexico, Gen AI adoption is at the forefront of this transformation. According to PR News, as AI drives automation and process optimization across industries, Mexican companies must invest in training programs to ensure their workforce can capitalize on these disruptive technologies. Strengthening AI literacy will be key to fostering innovation and accelerating economic growth.

Similarly, cybersecurity remains a top priority. As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, demand for risk management and digital security expertise continues to rise. This trend is expected to persist into 2025, as organizations face mounting challenges in protecting their systems amid rapid global digitization.
