For the 12th time, Merco released its 2024 ranking of Mexico’s 100 most responsible ESG companies, drawing on more than 35,971 surveys, six evaluations, and 25 data sources to assess corporate performance in environmental, social, and governance areas.

The rankings include sector-specific standings and three subrankings: one for environmental responsibility (E), another for social performance (S), and a third for ethical governance (G). Merco’s methodology also incorporates input from 1,385 executives, whose feedback highlighted weaknesses in ethics and corporate responsibility.

In the environmental category, Grupo Bimbo topped the list, followed by BBVA, Grupo Modelo, Google, Nestlé, Walmart México y Centroamérica, Natura, Grupo Herdez, Aeroméxico, and Grupo Lala. The ranking noted shifts for some companies, with Natura falling from 3rd to 7th place, Heineken from 8th to 16th, and L’Oréal dropping from 9th to 38th.

For social responsibility, covering internal practices, customer relations, and community impact, Grupo Bimbo again led the ranking. The Top 10 included Grupo Bimbo, BBVA, Google, Grupo Modelo, Heineken, Nestlé, Cinépolis, Walmart de México y Centroamérica, Mercado Libre, and FEMSA. Notably, Tecnológico de Monterrey slipped from 10th in 2023 to 31st this year.

In the ethics and governance category, Grupo Bimbo also secured the top spot, followed by BBVA, Google, Microsoft, Liverpool, Heineken, Apple, Walmart de México y Centroamérica, Grupo Modelo, and Cemex. Within this dimension, Mercado Libre fell 11 positions to 17th, and Grupo Herdez dropped from 10th to 16th.

Globally, Grupo Bimbo and BBVA were ranked as Mexico’s most responsible companies for ESG in 2024. They were followed by Grupo Modelo, Google, Nestlé, Heineken, Walmart, Mercado Libre, Microsoft, and Cinépolis. Pfizer dropped from 10th last year to 18th, while Natura moved from 8th to 14th. New entrants to the ranking included Alpura, Volaris, Cisco, Grupo Elektra, Scotiabank, Axa, Gentera, and Lilly.
