Rappi, Arca Continental, Coca-Cola Win Recycling Innovation Award
Rappi, Arca Continental, and the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry were recognized at the UN Global Compact LOGRA Awards for their groundbreaking Recycling Button project under the collaborative platform Aliados por el Reciclaje (Allies for Recycling).
Available to Rappi app users in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, this pioneering service has empowered thousands to become agents of change, significantly contributing to the circular economy and environmental stewardship, highlighted by the UN Global Compact. "At Arca Continental, we champion a circular economy strategy that transforms collected PET through the recycling button into new bottles. Additionally, we donate the economic value of the materials to organizations such as Caritas in Monterrey and the Food Bank of Guadalajara, promoting recycling with a cause and supporting our local communities," said Jesús Lucatero, Director of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability, Arca Continental Mexico.
Since its launch in September 2022 until April 2024, the Recycling Button has processed over 3,000 collection orders, recovering more than 20,000kg of recyclable materials, including over 66,000 PET bottles. "We are deeply honored at Rappi to receive this recognition. This achievement underscores the power of collaboration in creating sustainable solutions, integrating the best of companies toward a shared goal. The commitment of our strategic allies, such as Coca-Cola and Arca Continental, along with the hard work and passion of our development team, users, and recycling heroes from Recíclalo, have been instrumental in achieving this," stated Mauricio Ucrós, Director of Communications and Sustainability, Rappi.
The project's success has prompted Rappi and the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry to plan its expansion into more cities and sectors, including restaurants and SMEs allied with the company, aiming to amplify its positive impact. This recognition reaffirms these companies' commitment to sustainability and strengthening their partnerships to drive greater local market impact.
This initiative is part of the collaborative platform Aliados por el Reciclaje, created by the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry to address the global waste challenge and promote a circular economy. Its goal is to collect and recycle 100% of the packaging it puts on the market by 2030. Working with bottling partners, organizations, and the community, Aliados por el Reciclaje enhances collection and recycling systems, keeping plastic materials out of natural environments.
"We are deeply honored that this initiative has been recognized with the 2024 LOGRA Award. This recognition not only motivates us to continue developing initiatives that support the planet and drive significant change, but also reinforces our commitment to work toward a more sustainable future," stated Luis Felipe Avellar, President of Operations, Coca-Cola Mexico.
