Mexico’s CFE and the National Chamber of Electrical Manufacturers (CANAME) signed a new coordination agreement that aims to strengthen the country’s energy security and ensure power supply during natural disasters.

The agreement, signed on Aug. 18, gives CFE immediate access to critical materials and services needed to repair and restore electricity after emergencies such as hurricanes and storms. A centralized coordination mechanism will allow real-time tracking of inventories and inputs nationwide, reducing response times and accelerating power restoration for hospitals, schools, businesses, and households.

“With this agreement, we reaffirm our commitment to the Mexican people: electricity does not stop, not even in the face of natural disasters,” representatives from CFE and CANAME said during the signing ceremony.

The initiative supports the government’s 2025–2030 National Development Plan objectives on energy security and sovereignty. The agreement was formalized by Yesica Espino, Director of Administration, CFE; Rodrigo Espíndola, Deputy Director of Contracting and Services, CFE; and Aquiles López, Chairman, CANAME.

CFE says that by reinforcing collaboration between public and private actors, it aims to build a nationwide support network capable of restoring power more quickly and effectively when disasters strike.
