Last week, Cubico Sustainable Investments, alongside Tamaulipas’ Ministry for Energy Development (SEDENER) and the Altamira municipal government announced the installation of a solar resource measurement tower in Altamira, Tamaulipas. This is the site of Cubico’s future US$100 million, 100MW Altamira solar farm.

This tower will collect high-precision data on solar radiation and local weather, key variables for tailoring the plant’s design and maximizing performance. Over the next few months, technical teams will use the findings to pinpoint the ideal placement of the panels and fine-tune the electrical system layout.

According to the Tamaulipas government, the tower sits on roughly 180ha of private land in the Puerto Altamira region of Tamaulipas. Once operational, the installation is expected to generate over 200,000MWh of clean energy annually, enough to power thousands of homes, businesses, and industries across the region. The project is also expected to benefit the National Port System Administration of Altamira (ASIPONA), either by supplying clean electricity for its own operations or by helping attract new private investment to the country.

“The project aligns with Tamaulipas’ clean energy goals and the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, reinforcing Cubico’s commitment to supporting Mexico’s energy transition and building a more secure, climate-resilient energy system,” read Cubico’s Linkedin announcement of the project.
