Mexico, US Discuss Boosting Regional Energy Security Cooperation
Mexico’s Minister of Energy, Luz Elena González, met with US Ambassador Ronald Johnson to discuss potential cooperation between both countries aimed at strengthening energy development and security across the region. The meeting brought together officials from Mexico’s Ministry of Energy (SENER), the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and the US Embassy in Mexico to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Johnson emphasized the importance of this partnership for the US government. “Thank you, Secretary Luz Elena Gonzalez, for today’s conversation to continue advancing the energy security of our countries and North America,” Johnson posted on X. “This is a shared priority for our governments.”
Also present at the meeting were Emilia Calleja, Director of the CFE, and Laura Sima, Country Director for Mexico in the US Department of Energy. As of the publication of this article, further details of the discussions have not been made public.
This is not González’s first engagement with US energy officials this year. In April, she met with Mark Johnson, the Business Attaché at the US Embassy in Mexico, to discuss energy security cooperation. Earlier this year, she also held talks with her US counterpart, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, during the CERAWeek forum in Houston, where both leaders explored avenues for strengthening bilateral energy ties.
