Luz Elena González has been appointed the next Minister of Energy by president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum. She will be responsible for driving Mexico’s energy transition for this new administration.

Sheinbaum Appoints New Minister of Energy
González will lead Sheinbaum’s plans for the energy sector, including her Shared Prosperity plan, which features an investment of MX$55.4 billion (US$3,213 million) for transmission projects throughout 2025. Sheinbaum has stated that she is committed to an energy transition that promotes the development of renewable energies, primarily solar and wind power. Her plan includes the installation of around 80GW of clean energy, requiring an investment of US$13.6 billion, some of which will go toward the rehabilitation of hydroelectric plants. In this regard, she has urged the private sector to get involved.

Grupo Bimbo reported 92% progress toward achieving 100% renewable energy use in its operations, as part of its strategy to reach net-zero carbon emissions. By the end of last year, the company had converted its operations to 100% renewable electric energy in 27 countries.

INAI Instructs CFE to Disclose EV Charging Station Data
CFE has been instructed to release information about electric vehicle charging points by the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection (INAI). The Institute, chaired by Commissioner Adrián Alcalá, announced that on June 26, its Plenary unanimously revoked CFE's response to an individual requesting information about electric vehicle charging points in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Queretaro, Jalisco, Guanajuato, and Nuevo Leon in which the commission responded that no documents with the requested information were found.
