AstraZeneca announces a US$30 million investment to expand its Global Innovation and Technology Center (GITC) in Guadalajara, reinforcing its commitment to Jalisco as a strategic hub for innovation and global operations.

The investment will support infrastructure growth, job creation, and the development of local talent, positioning the center as a key player in AstraZeneca’s global network. The expansion will generate highly specialized jobs in IT, supply chain management, global strategy, business services, external supply manufacturing, and quality control, according to Alberto Treviño, Global Innovation and Technology Center Director, AstraZeneca.

“This investment highlights the confidence in Jalisco as a destination for business growth. We will continue to strengthen the conditions that attract companies committed to innovation and talent development,” says Pablo Lemus, Governor of Jalisco.

The company has been operating in the country since 1959 and sees Guadalajara as a key location for commercialization, production, and global operations, according to

Julio Ordaz,  President and General Manager, AstraZeneca Mexico. “Our decision to establish the GITC here in 2016 and expand it today reflects the region’s importance in our global strategy,” says Ordaz. The innovation center is home to over 500 experts specializing in  various IT support services that support AstraZeneca’s operations.

The center, originally focused on reducing IT costs, has evolved into a multifunctional hub offering more than 1,000 services across IT, supply chain, compliance, human resources, and research. The expansion will further solidify its role in AstraZeneca’s digital transformation and healthcare innovation.

“This investment ensures a sustained economic impact for at least the next seven years. AstraZeneca is committed to making a lasting contribution to Jalisco’s growth,” says Treviño.

AstraZeneca has designated Guadalajara as one of five strategic global locations aimed at balancing its operational footprint and ensuring future resilience. By integrating sustainability and digital advances into its workplaces, the company seeks to drive innovation while strengthening its global presence.
