Genuine, Holistic Healthcare to Address Men’s Needs
Q: How does Clinicasdelhombre.com ensure that its services truly change the lives of patients?
A: The company was founded with the goal of providing high-quality, specialized medicine at fair prices to all Mexicans. The idea arose from recognizing that many startups focused on primary care and essential medicine. While this is undeniably necessary, it is often insufficient to take care of the needs of the population.
Clinicasdelhombre.com aims to provide second and third-level medical care. The company focuses on surgical care, recognizing that timely access to a surgeon can significantly improve health outcomes and save lives.
Q: What actions is Clinicasdelhombre.com taking to encourage men to prioritize preventive care?
A: Men are often reluctant patients and even when they want to seek treatment, they often do not know where to go. Our goal is to simplify the process, building trust remotely and making healthcare more accessible. With this in mind, Clinicasdelhombre.com established clinics dedicated to men's health. We aim to change men’s healthcare by connecting them with specialist doctors, increasing operational efficiency, and offering solutions to their health problems.
Q: How has demand for mental health services for men evolved in recent years?
A: Many are increasingly breaking stigmas and taboos around mental health, but there is still much to be done. Some patients still have a dismissive attitude toward psychologists or therapists, creating resistance and discomfort. To address this, we have shifted our approach by focusing on specific issues that do not sound too clinical. For example, we address relationship problems, recognizing that sexual dysfunction is not always a physical or biological issue — it can sometimes be psychological, rooted in relationship challenges. When tackling this problem, we invite patients to address the problem with their partner and sit down with a specialist for advice and guidance. Changing the narrative in this way helps, but there is still a long way to go in terms of breaking down the barriers to mental healthcare.
Q: What are the main challenges limiting the introduction of a more preventive and holistic approach to healthcare?
A: Unfortunately, care systems globally are not truly health systems but rather disease management systems. Mexico is no exception. These systems focus on curing illnesses rather than improving overall health or maintaining it. A genuine health system not only focuses on prevention, but also promotes growth by encouraging healthy living and allowing individuals to reach their full physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional potential. What is often needed is a change in habits. As healthcare companies, we need to help address the rising rates of diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases, which ultimately are the leading causes of death. Early intervention is key.
We have made great strides in urology with new treatments, procedures, and techniques, such as advances in transurethral resection of the prostate. Unfortunately, many of these advances are not accessible to everyone. There is still a long way to go before we can reach the level of equity and access to healthcare that we aspire to.
Q: What inspired the renovation of the Mixcoac clinic, and how does this update reflect your commitment to providing quality healthcare?
A: We now have 13 clinics spread across Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara. Mixcoac was one of our first clinics in Mexico City, and at the time, the design and layout were tailored to a clinic with a much lower patient volume than what we experience now. The clinic had everything needed for its time, but the expansion allowed for the implementation of several improvements, including mental health and internal medicine services. As we grew, we realized the need for a more holistic approach to health, which is ultimately what allows us to truly change our patients' lives.
For many men, the visit to the clinic may be the only time they see a doctor in the next few years. If we do not take the opportunity to discuss lifestyle changes, exercise, and other health elements, it may be years before anyone addresses these issues again.
Q: How will Clinicasdelhombre.com expand its network of clinics and enhance its service offer in the near future?
A: We aim to expand to 300 clinics across Mexico. In the short term, the goal is to continue opening clinics in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, and then expand to other major cities. Our long-term mission is to improve men's health by offering specialized, affordable care and reducing the mortality gap between men and women. Many preventable conditions, like prostate cancer, contribute to higher mortality rates among men, and the goal is to raise awareness and encourage early screenings. The goal is to shift the culture around men's healthcare, breaking the stigma and promoting proactive care.
