According to preliminary data released at a major orthopedic surgeons' meeting, researchers revealed that patients undergoing hip replacement may benefit from new diabetes and weight-loss drugs, specifically Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic (semaglutide) and Wegovy, without an increase in associated complication risks. Nevertheless, experts are cautious about unequivocally endorsing the use of semaglutide before total hip replacement, citing the study’s scarcity of information and inadequate funding.
