IMSS-Bienestar to Receive 15 Million Medicines This Week
President Claudia Sheinbaum launches a new drug distribution system, Rutas de la Salud (Health Routes), which will deliver 15 million pieces of medicine and medical supplies this week to over 8,000 IMSS-Bienestar clinics across 23 states.
“Oncology medicines were distributed last week. We are moving forward and improving the IMSS-Bienestar health system,” stated Sheinbaum during a press conference.
The program was unveiled in a digital transmission with governors from the 23 participating states. Alejandro Svarch, Director General, IMSS-Bienestar, explained that distribution began with 1,006 logistical routes that will deliver 10,497 initial kits between Aug. 19 and 23, with logistics support from Birmex. Next week, deliveries will be extended to hospitals.
As part of broader health efforts, Svarch reported advances in the “Laboratorio en tu Clínica” program in the State of Mexico, which operates 576 units to collect samples for over 30 types of analyses. To date, 497,300 studies have been processed from 41,900 patients, with 3,200 laboratory samples analyzed daily. He says that the program will expand this month to Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Quintana Roo, and Baja California Sur, bringing the total to 250 collection units and more than 60 central laboratories. By the end of 2025, the service is expected to reach all IMSS-Bienestar states.
IMSS-Bienestar has reported 29.8 million primary care consultations so far this year, equivalent to 59% of its annual goal of 55 million, reports El Economista. The system has also performed 472,000 surgeries, reaching 47% of its target of 1 million procedures.
Zoé Robledo, Director General, IMSS, says that under the “2-30-100” strategy the institution has carried out 953,872 surgeries, 16.1 million specialty consultations, and 63.1 million family medicine consultations.
Martí Batres, Director General, ISSSTE, says that 2,217 surgeries for cataracts, knees, and prostate conditions have been completed, reaching 72% of the target of 3,068. He also reports advances on infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Oaxaca Regional High-Specialty Hospital, the demolition of the former “Dr. Gonzalo Castañeda” hospital in Mexico City, and a new family medicine unit in Tamaulipas.
