The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and Coca-Cola FEMSA renew a collaboration agreement to expand workplace health initiatives, aiming to increase access to preventive medical services for employees across the country. The partnership updates and reinforces a previous agreement established in 2010, focusing on the integration of the PrevenIMSS and Entornos Laborales Seguros y Saludables (ELSSA) programs.

“This agreement symbolizes a renewed commitment and collaboration between both institutions to strengthen the comprehensive health and well-being of the country’s workforce,” says Jorge Gaviño Ambriz, Secretary General, IMSS.

The updated agreement is part of IMSS’s broader effort to institutionalize workplace health promotion. Through programs like PrevenIMSS, the institute aims to bring medical checkups and early detection services for chronic diseases directly into company facilities. ELSSA, launched in 2022, has since evolved into a national preventive strategy, operating in over 15,000 worksites and reaching more than 4.3 million workers.

The ELSSA strategy is transitioning to version 2.0, says Iván Arturo Pérez, Head, IMSS Unit of Economic and Occupational Health Benefits. The updated strategy includes a wider scope that aims to support safer and more sustainable workplaces, with ongoing support from IMSS delegations and active involvement from private sector partners.

The program has already shown measurable results, reads the report. In the State of Mexico’s western region alone, 280 companies have adopted ELSSA. This has resulted in over 120,000 workers receiving services and more than 6,600 advisory sessions conducted by IMSS. Additionally, 592 ELSSA distinctions have been awarded to participating organizations in that region.

Coca-Cola FEMSA, in alignment with ELSSA’s objectives, aims to foster a culture of self-care, says Aldo Castrejón, Director of Corporate Affairs, Coca-Cola FEMSA. The company will continue to provide on-site medical checkups and health fairs in collaboration with IMSS.

Over 3.5 million workers have received medical checkups through IMSS mobile teams, says Ernesto Krug, Coordinator of Primary Care Units, IMSS. He adds that this initiative reinforces IMSS’s commitment to the health of its more than 21 million affiliated workers, who represent a significant part of Mexico’s productive sector.
