Prevention Programs Strengthen Workplace Wellness
STORY INLINE POST
Q: How has your medicine supply division evolved over the past few years, and what new strategies have been implemented to keep up with changing market demands?
A: The healthcare supplies division has essentially become a complementary area to our core service, which is occupational health. Medical services must always have access to the necessary medications. Therefore, we have made significant efforts to strengthen this division by closely monitoring and addressing the specific needs of every medical office we serve throughout Mexico.
Q: What role will the occupational health division have in the company’s future considering the increased focus on employee health post-pandemic?
A: Following the pandemic, the occupational health area was greatly impacted because it relies on healthcare professionals who, at that time, were among the most vulnerable. However, the field has been gaining considerable strength in recent years. This evolution has been closely aligned with the reforms implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, which aim to enhance the health and well-being of employees.
These reforms have reinforced the role of occupational health by requiring employers to develop and implement, through specialized companies like ours, comprehensive health and prevention programs for their workforce. This has created a win-win scenario: employees enjoy better health, and companies benefit from increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, and fewer work-related illnesses and accidents, which can be costly for businesses.
Q: How have your home care and telemedicine services expanded in recent years, and what new areas of healthcare delivery has Grupo Consulmed ventured into?
A: At-home care for employees and telemedicine have become increasingly relevant and are now part of everyday healthcare practices. Through our Protección Médica Integral (PMI) business unit, we offer a medical discount membership that now includes integrated telemedicine services for all users.
This solution complements the broader range of medical services we provide. Our at-home care service is not limited to PMI members; we also offer it as an additional service to our clients. This service is particularly valuable when an employee falls ill while away from their home city. We are fully equipped to assist them whether they are on a business trip or even traveling for personal reasons. We have also strengthened this offer by incorporating ambulance services, both for transfers and emergency situations.
Healthcare must evolve every day. Telemedicine has become a critical component, but it is not suitable for all medical specialties. It has seen significant adoption in general medicine, psychiatry, and nutrition, where it also has made a great impact. But it is important to carefully evaluate which new specialties can be integrated into telemedicine services. Ultimately, physical contact with a physician will always be necessary in some cases, but it is necessary to continuously explore and embrace the new tools that technology provides to improve access and care.
Q: How will Consulmed strengthen its operations in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, and how will it adapt its offer to meet the unique needs of each city?
A: We have expanded our client base and strengthened our network of strategic partners, particularly in the north of the country. Our goal is to continue growing in these cities and to establish a formal presence in Ciudad Juarez, a strong and promising market. While we do not have an office there yet, we have reinforced our medical division at our corporate headquarters.
We have over eight occupational health medical managers dedicated to serving clients across the country. The entire company has experienced substantial growth. We recently achieved a recertification under ISO 9001:2015 on Jan. 14. Our previous certification, obtained in 2022, covered occupational health, healthcare supplies, our pharmaceutical division, and IPMI, our healthcare membership program.
With this new certification, we have expanded two areas: our Additional Services division, which focuses on services that complement core medical care, such as periodic employee checkups, medical exams, ambulance dispatch, biohazard waste collection, noise studies, and workplace health campaigns — which are vital for employee well-being. The second area is our Training Division. We are deeply committed to the professional development of our workforce, which now includes nearly 1,000 employees across the country. We have invested in training related to occupational health, safety, and hygiene. We are preparing for our fifth national congress on occupational health, hygiene, safety, and ergonomics. These efforts have further strengthened our position in the market.
Beyond our physical expansion, we have broadened the scope of our business units, solidifying our role as both a strategic partner for our clients and a global healthcare provider. We aim to support all companies that require corporate medical services by providing the necessary training and guidance in occupational health, empowering their healthcare professionals with the tools to design and implement strategic health plans for their organizations.
Q: What are Grupo Consulmed’s main strategic priorities for the next two to three years?
A: We are focusing on continuous improvement. Internally, the goal is to build a strong sense of belonging among our remote teams and ensure they are well-trained health professionals who understand the company’s direction and commitment to innovation, including the potential impact of AI in healthcare.
Our next congress, which will focus on digitalization worldwide and its impact on health and safety, will center on digital transformation in health. We have also been invited by our commercial partners to explore opportunities in other Latin American countries. The goal is to expand as a health provider in regions where occupational health is still developing. Our mission is to become the leading corporate health company in Mexico and eventually expand beyond national borders.
We are joining initiatives like Top Companies. Since 2023, we have been named one of the best places to work for companies with 500 to 3,000 employees, and we just qualified again for 2025. We are also working on becoming a Socially Responsible Company. Expectations are growing, which is a sign of trust in us and our human-centered approach.
Grupo Consulmed is a fully Mexican administrator of health services. It is a leader in occupational medicine and manages the delivery of health supplies, medicines, and medical equipment, as well as additional services such as periodic medical exams, checkups, ambulance services, health campaigns, consulting and training in occupational health, safety and hygiene, and medical discount memberships or minor medical expense plans.
