Redefining the Care of Bedridden Patients in Mexico
STORY INLINE POST
Q: What is Baño Fácil’s value proposition for the healthcare sector?
A: Baño Fácil offers a non-woven cloth impregnated with soap that is designed to bathe patients who are bedridden and cannot be moved. The nurse or caregiver moistens the cloth and uses it to bathe the patient from head to toe, then dries the patient without the need for rinsing. This process ensures that the patient remains comfortable, fresh, and clean while eliminating the movement involved in rinsing. For example, a patient’s bath time can be reduced from 40 minutes to 15 minutes, and water usage can decrease from eight liters to half a liter. Additionally, a mattress can last up to ten times longer when cleaned with Baño Fácil. The product is easy to use and simple to train staff on.
We manufacture cloths with chamomile for general wards, with aloe vera recommended for elderly patients, and with chlorhexidine for pre-surgical baths.
Q: How would you describe Baño Fácil’s reception in the Mexican market, and what reasons have led to its success?
A: We have been selling in Mexico for about 15 years, with varying degrees of success. Our products have been purchased by both private clinics and public health institutions. The product has generally been well accepted and is appreciated by users. Although there are competing products available, we were the first to manufacture this type of cloth in all of Latin America. We have been manufacturing for 26 years and exporting for 17 years.
The product has been particularly well received in hospitals. While money can buy many resources in a hospital, it cannot create additional nursing hours. The number of available nurses is fixed, limited by the hours they can work. Baño Fácil helps free up nursing time for other tasks, improving efficiency. We have seen significant usage in nursing homes, Home Care services, and pharmacies, covering several areas of patient care.
Q: What challenges have you faced in expanding your presence in Mexico?
A: Mexico is an open market that imports products from around the world, which requires us to continuously adjust, improve, and innovate. For example, we now have a new product containing calendula, developed specifically for the military because it is fragrance-free and suitable for all personnel. Our ongoing goal is to continue growing and adapting to different market segments.
Many years ago, a Colombian soldier mentioned that he bathed with Baño Fácil. His spouse had purchased it for him from a pharmacy. However, in the jungle, scented products might attract insects. To address such situations, we developed a fragrance-free version suitable for military use.
Q: How should companies approach product selection and market strategy in Mexico?
A: It is important to consider product diversity, the variety of markets, and the proper training for staff. Selecting the product that best meets the specific needs of patients while ensuring the most favorable cost-benefit ratio is essential. Mexico is a large country, and having been present here for many years, it is rewarding to continue growing and serving different sectors of the healthcare market.
Baño Fácil provides pre-soaped cloths that allow caregivers to bathe patients efficiently without rinsing, saving time and water.
