This week, a report found that over half of Latin American households regularly use dietary supplements, with Central America leading the trend. The ILO launched a global toolkit to support inclusive and sustainable social health protection systems, aiming to accelerate progress toward universal coverage.

In Mexico, genomics is gaining ground through collaboration, with molecular testing driving more efficient and personalized healthcare solutions.

This is the Week in Health!

Half of Latin American Households Use Supplements Regularly

A study by the Latin American Alliance for Responsible Nutrition (ALANUR) found that over 50% of households in Latin America have at least one person who regularly consumes dietary supplements, with the highest levels of use concentrated in Central America.

ILO Launches Toolkit to Advance Global Social Health Protection

On World Health Day, ILO introduced the new Social Health Protection toolkit, designed to help countries implement inclusive and sustainable social health protection schemes. The toolkit aims to advance universal health coverage and social protection, both of which are key components of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Leveraging Genomics in Mexico Through Collaboration

Molecular tests enhance prevention and allow for the selection of tailored therapies, cutting time and costs, says Centinel BioGen’s Laura Uribe. “Healthcare in Mexico differs from those in other countries, requiring adaptations to ensure economic feasibility and efficient result delivery. Mexico lags behind in genomics, and our goal is to advance the development and offering of these tests within the country.”
