A Step Forward in the Digital Transformation of Healthcare
STORY INLINE POST
On May 29, a significant event took place as part of the national campaign, “Connect to a Better Healthcare Experience,” an initiative led by Medikit aimed at transforming Mexico’s healthcare ecosystem into a more digital, accessible, and human-centered model. The gathering was held at the Museo Soumaya and brought together healthcare professionals, medical students, and representatives from public and private institutions who share a common goal: accelerating the digitalization of the healthcare system in our country.
One of the central moments of the event was the presentation of the study, “Inclusion of Digital Health in Academic Programs in Mexico,” delivered by the Carlos Slim Foundation. While the full study will be publicly available soon, the presentation emphasized the importance of rethinking medical education in today’s digital context. Education is a key pillar if we aim to build a future-ready healthcare system.
This event is part of a series of monthly activities organized by Medikit under the “Connect to a Better Healthcare Experience” campaign, which aims to create spaces for dialogue, reflection, and innovation around digital health. Far from being limited to a single format or venue, these gatherings take place in various locations with diverse thematic approaches, ensuring that all relevant actors are involved in the transformation process.
The May 29 event was filled with enthusiasm, collaboration, and commitment. Medical students from various universities attended, bringing a fresh perspective on the challenges they face in their academic training as technology continues to evolve. Their participation was particularly meaningful, as they represent the future professionals who will operate in an increasingly digital healthcare system.
The event also welcomed leaders in digital health, government representatives, tech companies, academic institutions, and healthcare organizations. This diversity of voices enabled a multidisciplinary dialogue focused on transforming the healthcare system through innovation and strategic collaboration.
During the event, the Carlos Slim Foundation shared an inspiring vision on the importance of integrating digital health topics into academic programs in Mexico. The presentation made it clear that the future of healthcare doesn’t just rely on technology, it depends heavily on how we train the talent that will sustain and drive it forward.
The forthcoming public release of the study reflects the Foundation’s deep commitment to the sustainable development of the healthcare system. For years, the Foundation has championed projects that combine science, technology, and strong social focus to improve access, efficiency, and the quality of care across Latin America.
This event is part of a strategic pillar called, “Studies and Publications,” a core component of the “Connect to a Better Healthcare Experience” campaign. The objective of this line of work is to identify challenges and opportunities to enhance the digitalization of healthcare services through the generation and dissemination of valuable insights.
These studies gather key data from doctors, patients, academics, and technology providers and serve as a foundation to design solutions that can accelerate the adoption of digital tools. It is a collaborative and strategic effort that connects evidence to action and facilitates coordinated work among all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.
In addition to formal presentations, these events encourage networking and the development of alliances among professionals, institutions, and tech companies. They become fertile ground for the emergence of new ideas, the sharing of success stories, and the strengthening of partnerships that can lead to tangible improvements in the healthcare system.
One of the great values of this campaign is that it goes beyond raising awareness. It calls for action. Each event fosters an environment conducive to collective commitment and the construction of a more efficient, secure, and people-centered ecosystem.
The May 29 event clearly showed that the medical community, educational institutions, health startups, tech providers, and patients are ready to move forward. What’s needed now is more dialogue, better data, clear policies, and an environment that encourages experimentation and collaboration.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the attendees who joined us at the Museo Soumaya. Your participation and enthusiasm inspire us to continue building a new healthcare experience together.
A very special thanks to the Carlos Slim Foundation for their unwavering support, vision, and commitment to this initiative that aims to reimagine the future of digital health in Mexico. We also thank Grupo FarmaTodo for their sponsorship and strong backing of this collective movement toward a more connected and innovative healthcare system.
The “Connect to a Better Healthcare Experience” campaign will continue hosting monthly events throughout the remainder of the year. Each one will explore different aspects of digitalization, including interoperability, artificial intelligence, e-prescriptions, medical education, regulation, digital primary care, and more.
We invite everyone interested in transforming the healthcare system to stay connected, follow upcoming announcements, and join this collective effort to build a more accessible, innovative, and human-centered health system.
