Blutitude, in partnership with the Mexican Foundation for Health (Funsalud), has unveiled the rankings for Mexico's Best Private Hospitals in 2023. This comprehensive assessment, done in collaboration with Expansión, covers a broad spectrum of 500 private hospitals across the nation, making up 17.4% of Mexico's private healthcare landscape. These rankings provide patients with valuable insights to make well-informed decisions about their healthcare options.
The recognized institutions had to meet stringent criteria, including having a web presence and certification from the General Health Council. Collectively, they represent over 40% of the private sector's capacity, highlighting their significance within the healthcare industry, according to Beltitude.
"The private hospital sector in Mexico has experienced significant growth over the past 20 years. However, there is currently a lack of comprehensive and objective information on how good these hospitals are, and more importantly, how we can compare them when we need to make a decision about where to seek treatment. The ranking project of the Best Private Hospitals in Mexico aims to address this information gap," says Beltitude.
The rankings offer valuable insights into the performance of these hospitals across multiple domains. They include talent, technology, adherence to standards and best practices ensuring patient safety and quality care, health outcomes for patients, and the perception of key stakeholders regarding the best private hospitals in the country, region, and specialty.
The assessment's comprehensive nature extends to encompassing various categories, including a national ranking, six regional rankings, and 15 specialty rankings, providing a detailed overview of the healthcare landscape. The ranking also includes a category for small and medium-sized hospitals, recognizing the contributions of institutions of all sizes within the private healthcare sector.
In the national ranking that lists 50 private institutions, Médica Sur, situated in Mexico City, claims the top spot. With a talent score of 100, signifying excellence in medical expertise among staff. The hospital also boasts a high technology rating of 96.33, highlighting the importance of specialized medical teams, electronic medical records, and telemedicine services as essential components for delivering high-quality healthcare. In terms of processes that indicate whether the hospital meets standards and best practices to ensure patient safety and provide quality care, Médica Sur scores at 98.64, indicating adherence. Additionally, the hospital achieved a perfect score of 100 in health outcomes. However, its perception score of 96.32 shows slightly lower confidence from key stakeholders compared to other metrics. Recently, Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2024 was also unveiled, and while it employs different metrics for measurement, it also ranks Médica Sur as the top hospital nationally, as reported by MBN.
Following closely behind is Christus Muguerza Hospital Alta Especialidad in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. While it demonstrates strong talent and technology scores of 90.43 and 87.64 respectively, it falls slightly short in processes, with a score of 87.70. Meanwhile, it achieved a health outcomes score of 89.25 and a perception score of 97.70. In third place, Hospital Español in Mexico City, shines with commendable talent and technology scores of 87.68 and 86.45 respectively. Additionally, it boasts a processes score of 91.12, a health outcomes score of 88.40, and a perception score of 98.22.
“It is expected that this exercise will continue to be periodically renewed and enable patients to guide their decisions on where to seek care, and hospitals to benefit from a healthy comparison that generates sufficient incentives for improvement,” reads the ranking.
