During the Eighth Meeting of Governors from Mexico's south and southeast regions with the US Embassy, the American Chamber in Mexico (AmCham) unveiled projects to foster development in the region. The announcement includes an investment over US$85.3 million, doubling the figure presented the previous year and underscoring the interest and support from US companies in bolstering the economy of the region.

Eleven US-based companies, including notable names such as AECOM, American Tower, FedEx, Kenworth, Mercado Libre, Meta, Metlife, Organon, Rockwell Automation, Uber, and Visa, have joined forces to support projects benefiting over 1.78 million people. These initiatives aim to empower 13,900 female entrepreneurs, over 5,100 young individuals, and more than 1,360 members of indigenous communities.

Other companies, including Amazon, AT&T, Apple, AES, Constellations Brands, Google, Microsoft, Mastercard, 3M, TC Energía, and UPS, have also played a crucial role in these initiatives, reaffirming their commitment to the sustainable development of Mexico's south and southeast.

Fernanda Guarro, Vice President, AmCham, says that these coordinated efforts focus on connectivity, digital economy, and infrastructure in remote areas. These aspects are crucial for stimulating tourism, boosting local trade, and facilitating the region's integration into North America's value chains.

During the meeting, AmCham and the National Governors' Conference (CONAGO) signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on Equitable and Inclusive Development in Mexico's South-Southeast." This agreement positions the chamber as a collaborating guest to strengthen regional collaboration and monitor ongoing initiatives.

Since the First Meeting in Tabasco in October 2021, led by Ambassador Ken Salazar, a robust agenda has been established with thematic working groups, investment announcements, and training sessions. AmCham has played a pivotal role in these efforts, working with the primary goal of creating a robust and competitive southeast.

Pedro Casas, Executive Vice President and CEO, AmCham, underscores the importance of including the states in the south and southeast of the country when considering North America as the world's most competitive region. He highlights companies' continued commitment to drive long-term sustainable investments and integrate small and medium-sized businesses into global value chains, generating tangible impacts on the region's communities.
