Construction of Progreso’s Elevated Viaduct Advances: Government
Mauricio Vila, Governor of Yucatan, visited the construction works of an elevated viaduct at Progreso. This project promises to transform mobility in this important port town by focusing on efficiency, intelligence, and sustainability.
The elevated viaduct seeks to improve the entry and exit points of the town and its port, optimizing traffic flow, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Plans include creating green spaces, family parks, and a bike lane, providing recreational areas, and promoting a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.
One of the project’s highlights is the fabrication of beams for the construction of the elevated viaduct's superstructure, which were manufactured at the precast yard in the Paraiso district at Progreso. These works generated 110 direct jobs for local families, ranging from production workers to technical personnel.
The viaduct, which will feature two lanes for inbound and outbound traffic, is also designed to facilitate cargo transport from the port to the federal highway without needing to pass through Progreso. Significant improvements will be made to the drinking water infrastructure, ensuring comprehensive and sustainable development for the community.
The project is being fully financed by private investors, with a budget of US$88 million. It is expected to create 1,500 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs. More than 66,000 municipality inhabitants and tourists will benefit from this initiative, which promises to promote economic and social progress throughout the region.
The elevated viaduct is being carried out under the supervision of the Yucatan Road Infrastructure Institute (INCAY), which aims to ensure the safety of personnel. Additionally, residents of the area are being supported by the Work Execution Support Program, which provides them with economic support during the construction period.
