Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada announced that 26 new electric buses will join the fleet of Metrobús’ lines 2, 5, and 6. This move is part of the city’s efforts to increase electromobility, reduce environmental impact, and improve public transportation services.

According to the local government, the new 18m articulated buses are part of a strategy to enhance service on the three Metrobús lines, which together serve 740,000 passengers daily. The entire system now operates 826 units, with 141 of them being electric.

Additionally, Brugada reiterated plans to expand the Metrobús network. The city will introduce two new routes: Line 0, which will run along the Inner Circuit with a length of 46km, and Line 8, which will cover Anillo Periferico from Alameda Oriente to Toreo, measuring 51km. This will make Line 8 the longest Metrobús route in the city. The expansion also includes the construction of five more Cablebús lines and the extension of Metrobús Line 7.

Minister of Mobility Héctor García said the introduction of the new electric buses represents a significant step toward achieving the city’s electromobility goals. The system currently transports nearly 2 million people daily. "We will continue working toward Brugada’s commitment to position Mexico City as one of the cities that invests the most in electromobility," he added.

María Castro, Director, Metrobús, explained that each new unit is equipped with surveillance systems, including cameras, GPS, and communication tools. The first units will be assigned to Lines 2, 5, and 6, covering routes from Tepalcates to Tacubaya, Rio de los Remedios to Preparatoria 1, and El Rosario to Villa de Aragon stations, respectively.
