The Government of Mexico City and the Ministry of the Environment (SEDEMA) are hosting the first edition of Reciclatrón 2025, a two-day event focused on sustainable electronic waste management. The event will take place on Jan. 30 and 31 at the Universum parking lot in Ciudad Universitaria, UNAM.

Reciclatrón is part of the city’s efforts to address the growing issue of electronic waste (e-waste), which generates 320.6t of electrical and electronic waste (REE) daily. This initiative aims to educate citizens and businesses on the importance of properly separating and recycling e-waste to contribute to natural resource conservation, biodiversity preservation, and climate change mitigation. The event also helps extend the lifespan of REE by recycling materials and creating new components.

The event is organized by SEDEMA in collaboration with several universities, including UAM, IPN, UNAM, UACM, Universidad Iberoamericana, Instituto Mora, and Escuela Superior de Educación Física (ESEF). Additionally, local government offices and private sector partners, such as the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), are involved in promoting proper waste management and recycling practices.

Among the primary materials recovered during Reciclatrón are aluminum, copper, plastic, iron, glass, electronic circuit boards, data processing units, monitors (LCD), computers, household appliances, mobile phones, and video game consoles.
