Mexico City collected a record 71t of electronic waste during the first edition of Reciclatrón 2025. The event, organized by the city’s Minister of Environment (SEDEMA), surpassed the previous record of 59t set in 2018.

Over 5,000 participants and 93 companies and institutions contributed to the initiative, which collected 68t of electronic waste and three tons of batteries. Items delivered for recycling included cables, monitors, printers, televisions, laptops, and mobile phones.

Clara Brugada, Mexico City Mayor, emphasized the environmental benefits of responsible e-waste disposal, preventing pollution in public spaces. She described Reciclatrón as a key strategy for recycling and material recovery.  Meanwhile, Julia Álvarez, Minister of Environment, acknowledged the role of institutions such as the UNAM in supporting proper waste management and highlighted the public’s commitment to this initiative, adding that some participants waited up to three hours to drop off their devices.
