This Friday, the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry, Mexico City delegation (CMIC CDMX) 2025-2027, held the swearing-in ceremony for the new Board of Directors, led by the new President, Ricardo González. The event reaffirmed the fundamental role of the construction industry in the economic development of the capital.

The ceremony was presided over by Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive infrastructure projects. Luis Rafael Méndez, National President, CMIC, thanked the Mayor for her support: “Thanks to your vision and commitment, Mayor, fundamental projects for the city are taking shape. The construction sector plays a crucial role in this transformation.”

During his speech, Méndez highlighted the unprecedented investment by the Mexico City government in public works, housing, and service infrastructure, which will exceed MX$10 billion (US$490.8 million) in 2025. “This historic investment will transform mobility, improve water supply, promote dignified housing, modernize security, and strengthen infrastructure in the boroughs,” he says.

Key Projects for the City

The Minister of Works and Services of Mexico City, Raúl Bazurto, outlined some of the priority projects in collaboration with CMIC. “We will work closely together. Major projects are coming to Mexico City, especially in mobility, with the construction of five new Cablebús lines and the expansion of the Metrobús system,” says Bazurto.

He also emphasized the importance of modernizing highways, road interchanges, and social infrastructure projects such as Utopías, community centers that have proven to be key spaces for social well-being and interaction.

Inclusion and Sustainability in the New Administration

In his first address as President of CMIC CDMX, Ricardo González highlighted the new committee’s dedication to innovation and inclusion. “A testament to this is that our administration includes the highest participation of women in the history of the Mexico City delegation,” says González.

He also reaffirmed the importance of promoting more sustainable and equitable projects aligned with the city’s challenges. “This principle is a key tool for driving projects that are more equitable, sustainable, inclusive, and socially beneficial,” says González.

Economic Impact of Construction in CDMX

The construction sector in Mexico City continues to be a key driver of economic development. In the third quarter of 2024, the industry contributed 8.6% of the national GDP, reaching a total of MX$129 billion (US$6.33 billion). “Infrastructure is the backbone on which a country’s future is built. Investing in infrastructure projects generates jobs, promotes competitiveness, and improves people’s quality of life,” says Méndez.

Méndez also called for collaboration between the public and private sectors. “We are ready to contribute to the national projects planned by President Claudia Sheinbaum within the objectives of the Mexico Plan and the National Infrastructure Plan.”

Among the priority projects, he highlighted the construction of new railway lines, the rehabilitation of federal highways, the development of urban road interchanges, and the creation of economic corridors to promote balanced regional growth.
