The federal government will invest MX$11.8 billion (US$633.2 million) between 2025 and 2027 to fund the Comprehensive Development Plan for the Eastern State of Mexico. The plan targets public transport, mobility, and the creation of safe pedestrian paths.

Minister of Infrastructure Jesús Esteva explains that the Comprehensive Development Plan for the Eastern State of Mexico’s investment is broken down in: MX$5.9 billion for mobility projects, MX$2.9 billion for public transport, and MX$3 billion for the Senderos Seguros, Camina Libre Camina Segura (Safe Paths, Walk Free Walk Safe) program.

The Safe Paths program will invest its MX$3 billion over the next three years to develop 1,000km of safe corridors. The initiative includes the installation of new luminaries, migration to LED technology, sidewalk refurbishment, and the incorporation of urban art with murals. The infrastructure developments will be focused on municipalities including Nezahualcoyotl, La Paz, Ixtapaluca, and Ecatepec.

The mobility funding includes a road repaving and patching program, which will be supported by the delivery of 10 new repaving units to municipalities starting this month. Over MX$4.8 billion will be allocated for the expansion and construction of 20 bridges.

The Trolleybus from Santa Marta-Chalco to Ixtapaluca will see a 11.3km extension budgeted at MX$2.05 billion, says Andrés Lajous, Head, Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF). He adds that the Mexibus Line 3 to Panteon de los Rosales in the Chimalhuacan municipality will see a 5km extension, representing an investment of about MX$600 million.

Additionally, a vehicle scrapping and replacement program will be launched in the State of Mexico with an initial investment of MX$250 million to modernize public transport units.
